In the current information world, no education can be considered complete unless the student had undergone at least some computer training. The students of Samiti who come from rural parts, more often have not had much exposure to computers and any opportunity to handle computers on their own. With generous donations, Samtii has been able to establish computer centers at each facility.
Almost all the students take advantage of this facility.
In addition, students of various faculties can get specialized training in different software languages and software useful in their careers. The three computer laboratories are open 12 hrs everyday so that the students can practice for a nominal fee per term. Senior students who have gained computer expertise through practice train fresh students in all these activities. A basic computer hardware course is also available to students who are aiming to start their computer practice hardware servicing business. |

Every year most of the students go home to celebrate Festival of Lights. During this vacation students are given a small project that is intended to make them aware of the social, cultural, economic and developmental issues of their rural community. This is achieved by asking the students to collect information about there village and present it in a report. For example, one project was to collect the information about the disabled people in their community and become aware of the challedres f=ced due to disabilities and what solutions could be given to these affected people.
In collaboration with Sakal Papers Ltd, an state wide open essay competition is regularly organized. Almost thousand essays are received each year which shows the need for such activities for today's youth.

Making a choice of career is not an easy decision. Students sometimes, make this important decision because that is the least expensive choice or that is the only educational opportunity available in their town, or because their parents want them to be in a certain profession. Very rarely, students make a choice knowing their full potential and likings and after being aware of all the available options. Especially rural students who due to lack of proper academic and career counseling make choices that they are ill-suited for and thus ultimately wasting their meager financial resources and valuable years of education.
Samiti Workers identified this need of reaching out to the rural youth collaborated with the Lend a Hand - India, a US based organization and decided to work in the area of academic and career counseling in a few rural centers. Five centers where Samiti's ex-students are living and working as respected professional were chosen and thus began their work. |
